Political contribution mar festival

IT is now the turn of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to call on the Commission on Election (Comelec) to investigate his opponent, south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña for an election offense.

Rama said that the admission of San Nicolas Proper barangay captain Boy Desamparado that Osmeña gave financial help for the hosting of their Buwad Festival on Saturday should already be enough to warrant an investigation.

The Buwad Festival promotes one of Cebu’s popular food products, dried fish.

Comelec have been warning candidates in the May 13 election against giving cash or prizes for events organized during the campaign season.

“The barangay captain have to be summoned by the Ombudsman and the Comelec should come in,” he said.

But Comelec regional director Temie Lambino said that there has to be a formal complaint against Osmeña before they could investigate the congressman for violation of election rules. /Doris C. Bongcac, Chief of Reporters
