Cebu City fire leaves 50 families homeless

AT LEAST 50 families were left homeless yesterday after fire destroyed their houses in barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.

A total of 13 houses in sitio Care, Purok 8 went up in smoke, fire investigator Emiliano Daño said.

The fire quickly spread since most of the houses were made of light materials. Damage was pegged at P600,000.

The fire started at 7:48 a.m. and was contained at 8:10 a.m., Daño said.

The fire started on the second floor of the house owned by Michael Sadaga but occupied by Arvin Lobaramas.

Faulty electrical wiring may have caused the fire since sparks were seen coming out from Sadaga’s house, Daño said.

It took long before the firefighters were able to penetrate the fire site because of the narrow roads.

Tents were provided for the fire victims as their temporary shelters.

Foods were also distributed by the barangay to the fire victims./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
