43 high school students from NegOr qualify for DOST scholarship
FORTY-THREE high school graduates in Negros Oriental have passed out of the 314 who took the nationwide scholarship examinations given by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) last Nov. 18 at the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City.
The 43 qualifiers will be awarded with science and technology courses starting this coming school year.
DOST provincial director Gilbert Arbon announced that the 40 students qualified under the RA 7687 Scholarship grants, while the three qualified for the merit program.
Passers may pursue a four or five-year science and technology courses.
RA 7687 scholars, who belong to the economically disadvantaged families, will receive tuition subsidy, monthly stipend, book allowance and other privileges. Scholars under the Merit scholarship program will also receive the same benefits except for the pro-rated monthly stipend based on the family’s socio-economic status.
The DOST Negros Oriental has scheduled the qualifiers’ orientation and contract signing on April 19.
