EX-ARMY MAN, TEEN DIE IN MISHAPS

A 62-YEAR-OLD retired Army man and a 17-year-old boy died in separate motorcycle accidents in northern towns of Cebu.

Gilfredo Amaga, a former soldier of the Philippine Army, died of head injuries.

Police said Amaga was on his way home from a drinking spree when he met an accident in barangay Panalitan, Catmon town, northern Cebu past 6 p.m. last Monday.

Police said Amaga lost control of the motorcycle and rammed a jackfruit tree by the roadside.

A separate motorcycle accident in barangay Pooc, Sta. Fe town killed Bryan Betiencila and injured his companion identified as Franky Sebilleno.

Sebilleno drove the motorcycle.

Police said that the motorcycle was speeding when it slammed into a landmark post of the barangay.

NEWSBOY STABBED

A 13-year-old newspaper boy was stabbed by a group of youngsters in barangay Kalubihan, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.

The boy sustained a stab wound in the left arm.

Police said the boy was walking with his six friends on P. Del Rosario Extension when they met a group of youngsters including two girls.

Police said the boy and his companions fled.

A chase ensued.

When the boy was cornered, one of youngsters tried to stab him with a broken bottle of an energy drink.

The boy parried the blows using his arms and ran for safety.

Patrolling policemen saw the wounded boy and brought him to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC)./Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao

3 KIDS DROWN

THREE children died in separate drowning incidents in northern parts of Cebu.

Police said five-year-old Mary Joy Baflor was swimming with friends when she drowned in the waters off barangay Luyang, San Remegio town past 8 a.m. Monday.

The girls was already dead when police and the municipal health officer arrived.

In Liloan town, northern Cebu, cousins Maria Teresa Mag-Usara, 5, and John Peter Catobay, 6, drowned in a beach resort 2 p.m.

The victims joined relatives in a birthday part of their aunt.
