Cop shoots, injures shooting suspect

A POLICEMAN shot and wounded a man, who earlier shot dead another man in barangay Carreta, Cebu City, last Friday afternoon.

Police said  PO2 Alex Ando Muanghog, a resident in the barangay and assigned in Carcar City, shot Elmer Colongan, 21, in the body.

Police said Colongan tried to shoot the policeman, who was trying to arrest him for killing Eleuterio Illaconi, 21.

According to the investigation, Illaconi was in a covered basketball court when Colongan arrived on a motorcycle with two unidentified companions.

Colongan and his companions approached Illaconi and shook his hands.

Witnesses said Illaconi toyed with a gun by repeatedly drawing it and tucking it in his waist.

Later, Illaconi decided to leave the basketball court when Colongan fired at him.

Illaconi ran toward General Maxilom Avenue but Colongan chased and shot him.

PO2 Muanghog happened to be in the area and saw the commotion.

The policeman chased Colongan and asked him to surrender.

Police said Colongan pointed a gun at PO2 Muanghog that forced the policeman to open fire.

Colongan, who was hit in the body, was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Colongan’s companions were nowhere to be found after the shooting.

A loaded .45 pistol was recovered from Colongan’s possession.

Police said no gun was recovered from Illaconi but three empty shells were found in his possession.
