Cuello, Jaro to fight in Japan next month

WBC No. 1 ranked minimumweight contender Denver ‘The Excitement’ Cuello and former WBC flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro will see action in Osaka, Japan in tune-up bouts on April 7, promoter Aljoe Jaro informed CDN.

Jaro (34W-11L-5D, 24 KOs) of Silay City will face Hiroyuki Hisataka (21W-10L-1D, 10 KOs), while Cuello (32W-4L-6D, 21 KOs), who hails from Iloilo, will fight former world title challenger Takashi Kunishige (24W-8L-2D, 2 KOs).

Jaro is on the comeback trail after losing his world title last year by split decision in Japan to Toshiyuki Igarashi. Histaka has beaten Filipino boxers Wyndel Janiola, Bert Batawang and Federico Catubay.

Cuello is still waiting for a world title shot against WBC 105 lb division champion Xiong Zhao Zhong of China.

Promoter Jaro initially planned to have Cuello fight in Las Vegas on the undercard of Zhong’s defense against Carlos Ortega of Panama on April 13. Kunishige lost to Mexican Edgar Sosa five years ago in his bid to win the WBC lt.flyweight title.

Cuello and Jaro will be on the undecard of the title defense of WBA bantamweight champion Koki Kameda against Juan Carlos Payano of the Dominican Republic.
