Araw-araw shines for Magis Eagles
ARC GABRIELLE Araw-Araw hit the crucial shots in overtime to help the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles win their third straight championship in the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Cebu leg after defeating bitter rivals University of the Visayas, 96-92, in Game Three of the best-of-three finals series late Friday evening at the City Sports Club-Cebu.
Araw-Araw was a huge thorn on the side of the Baby Lancers, especially during the 2012 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) juniors division finals, where the 5-foot-7 guard played one stellar game after another and swept the series towards getting their very first title. Friday evening, he rose up once again to deliver the killer blows against his all too familiar victims.
Araw-Araw scored on a crucial three-pointer that gave them a 94-90 lead in overtime, after trailing by as many as 10 in the waning moments of regulation. The 2012 Rookie of the Year and Mythical Five member delivered the biggest shot of the game as he made his patented teardrop from the right wing that put them on top, 96-92, with 22.5 seconds left.
