Towing service firm employee nabbed

/ 11:16 PM December 17, 2012

An employee of a towing service company was arrested on Monday by traffic policemen in Quezon City for extortion and illegally towing away vehicles.

Arnold Alvarez of Aaron Towing Service was earlier accused by a bus driver of illegally hauling away his vehicle but another complainant came forward to claim that the former had demanded P7,000 from him in exchange for not towing away his vehicle.

Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 1 commander Senior Police Officer 4 Raymundo Layug said they also impounded the tow truck used by Alvarez. The complainants against him were identified as Genesis Bus driver Manolito Serrano, 35, and Noli Evangelista, 35, a motorist.

Layug said only accredited towing services were allowed to operate and bring the vehicle to the impounding areas of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.—Julie M. Aurelio
