Carcar, Talisay bag wins

CARCAR AND TALISAY City scored impressive victories in the Gullas Cup 2012- First District of Cebu Basketball Tournament last weekend at the Talisay City Sports Complex.

Carcar defeated San Fernando, 85-78, while Talisay City overwhelmed Minglanilla, 89-69.

Sergio Gabinete Jr. and Reclear Navarro led Carcar past San Fernando with 23 and 22 points, respectively.

San Fernando was able to take the lead in the first and second periods, which resulted to a 43-38 score at the end of the first half.

Navarro scored 10 markers in the third that tied the game at 61-61 entering the fourth period.

Gabinete took over in the fourth and scored 15 points there to seal the victory for Carcar.

Junrey Ebardo’s 24 points and Jonilo Ramo’s 15 all went to waste for San Fernando.

Meanwhile, Cebu Institute of Technology’s Joshua Romelle Dela Cerna scored 24 points for Talisay and led the team’s second-half explosion against Minglanilla.

Christopher Obeso and Giovanni Tabay added 17 and 16 points, respectively for the winning team.

University of the Visayas’s Earvin Dennis Ferraren and University of Cebu’s Brian Heruela scored 25 each for the losing squad./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
