ROBBERS STRIKE
AT least P40,000 cash were taken in separate robberies in Cebu.
Two armed robbers locked up a cashier and a baker after robbing a bakeshop in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, southern Cebu at dawn yesterday.
Police said two men arrived at San Jose bakeshop and pointed guns at Gema Lamoste and John Mark Moran, who were about to open the store.
The robbers took P7,500 from the cashier before locking up the two workers in the baking room and fled on foot.
Co-workers rescued Lamoste and Moran.
Article continues after this advertisementIn barangay Balungag, San Fernando town, two lending collectors reported to the police that they were robbed by two armed robbers.
Article continues after this advertisementJerwin Poaoy, 27, and Jericho Acmanza of Rafi Micro Finance in Cebu City, said they were robbed after making a round of collections past 11 a.m. last Tuesday.
The two men said they were traveling on a road on a motorcycle driven by Acamanzi when two men flagged them down.
The two collectors said one of the men pointed a gun at them and declared a hold-up. They said the robbers hurriedly left after taking P11,000.
In barangay Poblacion, Danao City, a lone robber robbed a gasoline station of P30,000 last Tuesday night.
Ricky Maratas, the 23-year-old delivery boy of the gas station, told police that a motorcycle-riding man arrived at the gas station and robbed cashier John Paul Tarpos at gunpoint.
Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, head of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said the three robberies were still being investigated.
“Cebu province is a very large province with almost 3 million population. The three robberies do not reflect the true state of the peace and order in the province,” Comendador said in a text message to Cebu Daily News./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
MAN SHOOTS SELF
A 29-YEAR-OLD man was critically wounded after he allegedly shot himself in the head in barangay Guinacot, Danao City, northern Cebu.
The victim (name withheld) was brought to the Danao District Hospital.
Police are still investigating what drove the man to shoot himself inside his house at dawn yesterday.
Police recovered a .38 revolver with three live bullets and two empty shells in the man’s house.
Police said the victim woke up around 5 a.m. yesterday and asked for bread from his mother who was still asleep in a separate bedroom together with her live-in partner.
A few minutes later, a gunshot rang out.
The man was later found slumped on the floor in the living room

MAN NABBED FOR DRUGS
AN unemployed man was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City
Billy Planiar, 26, allegedly sold a pack of suspected shabu worth P200 to a poseur-buyer at dawn yesterday, said Senior Insp. Wilson Abot, chief of the Basak police station.

MAN DIED DUE TO BLOOD LOSS
A 49-YEAR-OLD man died last Tuesday night due to loss of blood from a deep cut in the arm after he punched and broke a glass window of a parked multicab in barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City.
Honorato Geverola was found unconscious at the side of the road and was rushed to the hospital to no avail.
Geverola’s wife, Bonifacia, 70, told police that her husband arrived home drunk at past 10 p.m.
A few minutes later, Bonifacia said her husband stood up to go outside. She tried to prevent him from leaving the house but failed.
She said Honorato headed to a multicab at the side of the road near their house.
She followed him and tried to convince him to go back inside but he didn’t heed her request.
Instead of listening to her, Honorato punched the side glass window of the multicab, owned by Redger Dungog.
Bonifacia said that Honorato cut himself with the broken glass.
And instead of returning home to have his wound treated, he instead walked aimlessly with a bleeding wound along the road. Bonifacia said she didn’t follow him and she went inside their house.
About 15 minutes since the punching incident, Honorato was found unconscious at the side of the road and was brought to the hospital.
Doctors at the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital declared him dead on arrival and said he might have died due to the loss of blood caused by his wound.
