DOST opens college scholarships anew

THE Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is once again looking for a new set of scholars for 2013.

The agency will award Bachelor of Science degree courses to poor but deserving Filipino students.

The department will also award scholarships to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and willing to pursue fields of science and technology or the merit scholarship program as well.

DOST Negros Oriental Provincial Director Gilbert Arbon said scholars will receive subsidies on tuition and other school fees, book allowance, monthly living allowance for 10 to 11 months every year. The merit scholars will receive the same benefits except for a pro-rated monthly stipend depending on the family’s socio-economic status.

The list of courses that the scholars can enroll are Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Biology, Ceramics Engineering, Chemistry with Applied Computer System, Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science, among others.

Scholarship applicants may submit accomplished application form, 2 1×1 photo, photocopy of birth certificate, parents’ proof of income, photocopy of 2011 Income Tax Returns or W2 form of parents, BIR certification of exemption from filing of ITR, certification of non-employment/indigency signed by the barangay captain and assessment form from the private school/scholarship certification.

The deadline of application is Oct. 5. The date of examination is on Nov. 18 at 7 a.m. at the Negros Oriental State University main campus in Dumaguete City.
