Mall celebrates breastfeeding month

SM Supermalls all over the country joined the nation in celebrating the Breastfeeding month.

The celebration aims to convey how breastfeeding made both mothers and babies winners — babies had numerous health benefits, while moms could recover from childbirth more quickly.

In SM City Cebu, a photo exhibit by The Stork Studio will showcase breastfeeding mothers. The exhibit opens today, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Mosaic area, lower ground floor of the main mall.

At 2 p.m., breastfeeding mothers will parade around the mall, followed by a talk on the benefits of breastfeeding and new-born care to be conducted by the National Nutrition Council at the Event Centre.

It is known that breast milk is best for the baby, and the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition.

In addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients that baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect the baby from illness.

SM’s Breastfeeding Committe bagged the Anvil Award of Merit for its programs, projects and advocacy that promotes breast-feeding during the 45th Anvil Awards.
