/ 11:51 PM August 10, 2012

A man arrested for robbing and stabbing a woman was shot dead after he allegedly tried to grab his police escort’s gun on their way to inquest proceedings in Quezon City.

The slain suspect was identified as Johnny Geraldes, 30, of Antipolo City.

Supt. Norberto Babagay of the Galas station said the man tried to disarm his escort while en route to the city prosecutor’s office on Friday.

Babagay, who did not name the escort, said the incident happened on Cordillera Street. The escort was forced to shoot the suspect as they grappled for the gun, he said.

Security watchmen in Barangay Doña Josefa earlier turned Geraldes over to the police following his arrest for robbing and wounding a woman near Quezon Avenue corner D. Tuazon Street Thursday night.
