Fake NBI agent nabbed inside HQ
A man who posed as an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was recently arrested right inside the bureau’s headquarters on Taft Avenue, Manila, after receiving marked money from a security agency official whom he allegedly tried to swindle.
Danilo Cruz Beltran, 55, of Antipolo City, offered to mediate a labor dispute between Nazareth Security Agency Inc. and a former employee, and demanded P80,000 for his services.
Beltran was arrested inside the NBI cafe after taking P40,000 from Rufino Macutay, son of the security agency’s owner.
Beltran went to Nazareth’s office on July 12 and introduced himself as an NBI Special Task Force agent who could help the company in the dispute.
A trap was set after Macutay, who haggled for a lower payment, checked with the NBI and found out that the man was an impostor.
Beltran has been charged in the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for usurpation of authority. Nancy C. Carvajal
