Big events lined up at city sports center

THE Cebu City Sports Center is bracing for a super busy schedule starting next month with big tournaments to be held there until the end of the year.

First off is the 17th Milo Little Olympics-Visayas which will come off the blocks on Aug. 24-26 and Sept. 1-2, said CCSC manager and Milo meet head organizer Ricky Ballesteros.

The Milo Little Olympics is the developmental version of the summer Olympic games and is open to all students, male and female in the elementary and high school levels of public and private schools in the country.

The event features 12 sporting events namely, athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, scrabble and sipa takraw.

These competitions are divided into two (2) levels, elementary and high school for boys and girls. The age qualification for elementary level is 12 years old and not below 7 years old. The cut off year is 2000.

The cut-off year for high school participants is 1995 which means the age limit for high school athletes is 17 years old.

Meanwhile, Danilo Villadolid said that Milo games will extend on Aug. 27 since it is a holiday being a National Heroes Day.

Deadline for submission of registration forms is on Aug. 10, 2012 which also coincides with the final organizers meeting.

After the Milo Little Olympics, the sports center, which underwent a massive facelift late last year, will also host the Milo Marathon on Oct. 7 and the Cebu City Olympics on Nov. 8-10.

The City Olympics is the qualifying meet for the Cebu City’s delegates to the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet. /PIT Intern Agnes Divina P. Enguito
