Blue, Limasawa outplay rivals

THE Blue team trounced Green, 91-83, while Limasawa Customs Brokerage stunned MJDL, 82-78, Thursday night at the end of the tune-up games of the Customs-3rd Major Alfonso Abbariao Cup-2012 Biggest Loser basketball tournament at the Basak San Nicolas gym.

Blue took a slim 22-21 lead in the opening quarter then pulled away in the second with a 24-14 run for a, 46-35 lead at the half.

Green came to life in the fourth quarter and took a, 76-74 lead with effective sniping from beyond the arc. But Blue’s Tata Laborte and Ronan Cañete delivered crucial endgame baskets for the 8-point win.

Cañete had a game-high 27 points for Blue while Laborte added 24 markers. Jingjing Rama paced Green with 23 points on top of six trifectas.

FEATURED STORIES

In the other game, Limasawa Brokers broke away from a 78-all tie with 58 seconds remaining by scoring four unanswered points courtesy of Reden Villaronza’s short jumper and Francis Palero’s free throws.

Taks Moral led Limasawa with 23 points while Janus Abellana paced MJDL with 17 markers.
