SAN FERNANDO, Bukidnon — Government authorities uprooted 800 fully grown marijuana plants during an anti-illegal drugs operation in the remote and mountainous area of Sitio Salumayag, Barangay Halapitan, San Fernando, Bukidnon, on Monday.

According to Police Captain Sheila Joy Jangad, Bukidnon Provincial Police Office spokesperson, the operation was conducted jointly by the 2nd Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10, 1003rd Maneuver Company, and the 89th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.

The operating troops hiked for more than five hours through rugged terrain before reaching the plantation site early in the morning.

Authorities said the marijuana plants were intercropped with cassava and tobacco to conceal them from public view.

The uprooted plants had an estimated value of about P150,000.

Most of the plants were burned on-site, while samples were collected and submitted for laboratory examination as evidence.

Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and locate the owner of the land where the marijuana plants were cultivated. /coa
