Woman gunned down outside Negros Occidental jail

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A 41-year-old woman was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants shortly after leaving the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, on Saturday afternoon, June 6.
Police identified the victim only as Lowela, a resident of Barangay 2 in Manapla, Negros Occidental.
According to investigators, the victim had just left the jail facility with two companions and boarded a rented tricycle driven by a resident of Manapla when an unidentified gunman opened fire at 4:08 p.m.

She sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of her face and died as a result of her injuries.
The suspects were reportedly riding a black motorcycle. Witnesses described them as two men wearing black bonnets and no helmets. One was wearing a yellow-gold sweatshirt, while the other was dressed in a black T-shirt.
After the shooting, the assailants immediately fled in an undetermined direction.
Police are conducting a follow-up investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack. /das /atm
