TUGUEGARAO CITY — At 78, Genoveva Andaya proves that age is no barrier to learning. The grandmother from Magapit village in Lal-lo, Cagayan, recently completed Senior High School through the government’s Alternative Learning System (ALS).

She earned her Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Home Economics certificate at Magapit National High School on March 31.

Andaya said poverty forced her to quit schooling over six decades ago to help with household chores, making education a distant dream.

“Learning was challenging at first — reading, writing, understanding lessons — but I persevered,” she said.

Andaya added: “I hope my story inspires elders like me that it’s never too late to study.”

Encouraged by her achievement, Andaya plans to pursue a Home Economics degree in college soon.

She is the second septuagenarian in Cagayan this week to finish senior high school.
