Habagat prompts Pagasa to issue rainfall warnings in Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Various parts of Luzon were placed in two rainfall warning systems due to the continuous downpour brought by southwest monsoon, or locally termed habagat, on Tuesday night, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In a rainfall bulletin issued by Pagasa, an orange rainfall warning is raised in Bataan where flooding threatens low-lying and near river channels. It was earlier raised to red rainfall warning.

Yellow rainfall warning is up in Metro Manila and portions of Zambales (San Marcelino, San Antonio, Castillejos, Subic, and Olongapo) and Rizal (Antipolo, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Angono, Cainta, Taytay, and Teresa) where flooding is possible in low-lying areas or near river channels.

Pag-asa also said that light to moderate rains are expected to occur in Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, and Batangas within the next three hours.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional downpours will affect parts of Zambales (Botolan, Cabangan, Candelaria, Iba, Masinloc, Palauig, Santa Cruz, San Felipe, and San Narciso), Bulacan (Angat, Balagtas, Baliuag, Bocaue, Bulakan, Bustos, Calumpit, Malolos, Meycauayan, San Jose del Monte, Guiguinto, Hagonoy, Marilao, Norzagaray, Obando, Pandi, Paombong, Plaridel, Pulilan, Santa Maria) Pampanga (Floridablanca, Lubao, Sasmuan, Apalit, Bacolor, San Fernando, Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, San Simon, Santo Tomas, Guagua, Porac, Santa Rita), Cavite (General Trias, Bacoor, Cavite City, Imus, Kawit, Naic, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Ternate, Maragondon, Trece Martires, Dasmariñas), Quezon (General Nakar), and Rizal (Tanay, Pililla, Jala-Jala, Binangonan, Cardona, Morong, Baras) and may persist within three hours.

In an earlier Tuesday weather bulletin, Pag-asa forecast that overcast skies and rain showers were expected in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon due to habagat.

Meanwhile, according to the 11 p.m. weather advisory of the state weather bureau, habagat on Wednesday will continue to bring heavy to intense rain (100-200) in Bataan and Occidental Mindoro while moderate to heavy rain (50-100) is expected in Metro Manila, Batangas, Palawan, Romblon, Guimaras, Antique, Aklan, and Negros Occidental.
