Widow killed by ‘mentally ill’ son in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A 49-year-old widow was allegedly killed on Friday, June 14, by her son, who was suspected to be suffering from mental illness, in Sariaya, Quezon, police said.

Quezon police, in a report on Saturday, June 15, said that victim, “Mercy”, was sleeping Friday night inside their house in Barangay (village) Sampaloc 1 when her son, “Jay-R”, 27, hit her head with a shovel.

The victim was taken by her relatives to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The report said the suspect “has a mental problem.”

The suspect was later arrested by village watchmen and was placed under the custody of the local police.#
