Parts of Metro Manila, 20 other areas to have ‘danger’ heat index

MANILA, Philippines—Parts of Metro Manila and 20 other areas in the country are expected to experience a “dangerous level” heat index on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said its station in Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay is seen to record a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius (°C).

However, its station in Science Garden in Quezon City is only forecast to have 41°C, just a degree below the “danger” threshold.

The heat index under the “danger” category ranges from 42°C to 51°C.

  • Appari, Cagayan: 43°C
  • Alabat, Quezon: 43°C
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro: 43°C
  • Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte: 43°C
  • Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: 42°C
  • Bayumbong, Nueva Viscaya: 42°C
  • Muñoz, Nueva Ecija: 42°C
  • Sangley Point, Cavite: 42°C
  • Tanauan, Batangas: 42°C
  • Infanta, Quezon: 42°C
  • Coron, Palawan: 42°C
  • Cuyo, Palawan: 42°C
  • Masbate City: 42°C

Heat index in these areas may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke during continued exposure, according to Pagasa.

In contrast to the sweltering heat in these areas, a low-pressure area off Agusan del Norte is expected to trigger rain showers on Tuesday in parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

However, the rest of the country is still expecting warm weather.
