MANILA, Philippines — The National Commission on Senior Citizens (NCSC) said that information circulating on social media of a P1,000 payout for senior citizens who will register is not true, the agency said on Wednesday.

“We are definitely confirming that the issue that came out, especially on the social media, regarding the P1,000 that senior citizens will get once they register is totally inaccurate, or in other words, fake,” NCSC Project Development Officer Alex Tayao told INQUIRER.net.

Tayao said that the fake news circulating on social media even had the logo of the NCSC.

He emphasized that they did not ask any entity on social media to share it.

“We received a barrage of calls and inquiries about this,” said Tayao.

The NCSC had even sought the help of the Philippine Information Agency to debunk the fake news.

“We are in the process of trying to find out who is behind this, and we’d like to once and for all as soon as possible,” Tayao said.

The NCSC had previously said a P1,000 pension increase in 2024 was expected.
