MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Martin G. Romualdez commended the contributions and achievements of 20 young individuals honored as recipients of the first-ever Marikina Youth Leadership Award (MYLA) on Tuesday at the House of Representatives.

“They are not just leaders of tomorrow, but leaders of today,” said Romualdez,  acknowledging their integral role in their communities.

The MYLA was initiated by the Office of Rep. Stella Luz A. Quimbo to highlight and recognize the youth’s commitment to leadership and academic excellence.

The young leaders were selected from Marikina’s public elementary and secondary schools, a process that involved collaboration with school administrations and parent-teacher associations.

“These individuals embody the principles of MYLA: valuing others, extending help to those in need, and playing a pivotal role in community building,” Romualdez said during the award ceremony at the North Lounge of the House of Representatives.

Quimbo, her husband former congressman Miro Quimbo, teachers from Marikina schools, and families of the awardees were present for the event.

Romualdez commended Rep. Quimbo’s initiative, labeling it a “visionary initiative” and adding, “I commend Teacher Stella’s foresight in spotlighting these dual achievers, for they are truly the city’s pride.”
