Coast guard rescues 16 fishermen in Oriental Mindoro
MANILA, Philippines — Sixteen (16) fishermen were rescued in the waters off Oriental Mindoro after the engine of their boat broke down.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday said its crew, together with the Philippine National Police maritime group, came to the aid of the fishermen on Sunday, April 23.
“On 22 April 2023, FBCA (fishing banca) Princess Ricamae, skippered by Mr. Rowell Bones, departed Rosario, Cavite, going to Estancia, Iloilo, for a fishing venture,” the PCG said in a statement.
“The next day, while traversing the vicinity waters off Baco Chico Island, Calapan, they encountered engine trouble due to a malfunctioned engine injection pump,” it added.
The boat captain then contacted PCG for assistance.
Article continues after this advertisementPCG’s search and rescue team found the boat approximately ten nautical miles from Barangay Buhay na Tubig in Pola town.
Article continues after this advertisementThe group towed the vessel towards shoreline of Barangay Tiguihan in the same town.
The Coast Guard Medical Team and the local government provided medical aid to the fishermen, who were in good physical condition.
As of Thursday, the boatmen are repairing their vessel.
