PCG rescues 85 passengers from stranded Ro-Ro vessel off Lanao del Norte
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday said it has rescued 85 passengers from a roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel that ran aground off Lanao Del Norte.
The PCG said MV Filipinas Cebu got stranded close to Maigo Point at around 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.
The Coast Guard Search and Rescue team saved the passengers and transferred them to a tugboat toward the shore.
Meanwhile, the PCG’s Marine Environmental Protection Unit conducted an oil spill assessment around the vicinity of the boat mishap. The result of its inspection showed a negative presence of oil sheen in the area.
Nevertheless, oil spill booms were installed to prevent the potential impact of the accident on the body of water.
