Ex-communist rebel yields in Olongapo City
OLONGAPO CITY — A former member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) has surrendered to the authorities after the intensified anti-insurgency campaign of the government in this city.
The Olongapo City Police Office (OCPO) said the rebel-returnee used to be a member of the Komiteng Larangan Gerilya Tarlac-Zambales, which operates in Central Luzon.
The OCPO did not name the former rebel, but noted that he withdrew his support for the rebel group on Tuesday.
During his facilitated surrender to the government troops, the rebel returnee also turned over three rifle grenades.
He was expected to receive financial assistance and other benefits under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. INQ
