Alleged NPA rebel surrenders to cops in Laguna
LUCENA CITY – An alleged member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered with his firearm to the police in San Pedro City in Laguna province on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The Laguna police reported Sunday, Nov. 13, that the rebel returnee, Randy Jeremias, 45, an alleged member of the NPA’s Nilo Hatol Command operating in the province, surrendered to the police in his residence in Barangay (village) San Antonio at around 2 p.m.
The report said the former communist guerrilla surrendered a caliber .380 pistol with five bullets.
The police said Jeremias had been with the NPA for the past 10 years and decided to surrender due to alleged “deceptions and widespread corruption” inside the movement.
The government is preparing the necessary assistance to the former rebel in his reintegration protocols under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
A rebel returnee can avail of firearm remuneration and housing, medical, loans, and legal assistance among other forms of help from the government.
