Alleged rebel slain in Camarines Sur clash
LEGAZPI CITY — A New People’s Army (NPA) member was killed Monday in a clash with the military in Baao town.
Major John Paul Belleza, public affairs chief of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division, said Wednesday, Sept. 21, that the unidentified rebel was killed at 10:15 p.m. in an eight-minute firefight with the 49th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Sta. Teresa.
Belleza said the soldiers were conducting operations when citizens tipped them off about the armed men in the village.
They recovered an M16 Bushmaster Rifle, 84 live bullets and three magazines for M16 Rifle, a bandolier, three cellphones, a commercial radio, a stethoscope, and three bags of personal belongings.
In Masbate, seven alleged NPA members surrendered Monday to the Cataingan town police.
