MMDA suspends number coding on Aug. 23, 24 due to ‘Florita’

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday expressed its “full support” to the implementation of the no contact apprehension program (NCAP), despite calls for its suspension and a petition filed against it in the Supreme Court.

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended the number coding scheme for Tuesday, August 23, and Wednesday, August 24 due to heavy rains caused by severe tropical storm “Florita.”

“In view of the suspension of work and classes by Malacañang and due to heavy rains, the number coding scheme is suspended today and tomorrow,” MMDA Public Affairs Director Sharon Gentalian told reporters in a Viber message.

Malacañang has suspended classes in public schools and worked in government offices in Metro Manila and several Luzon provinces until Wednesday due to Florita.

Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains are expected over Cagayan, Isabela, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
