Over 100 bills in 18th Congress lapse into law

MANILA, Philippines — Over 100 bills lodged in the Senate and House of Representatives during the 18th Congress have lapsed into law, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri announced on Tuesday.

The bills include the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2020, the Special Protections Against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children Law, the Vaporized Nicotine Products Regulation Act, and the Social Pension of Indigent Senior Citizens.

Local bills, tax, budget, and franchise measures were also among those that lapsed into law.

“I’d also like to put on record that these measures were the last batch of measures that we sent to Malacañang,” Zubiri said during the plenary session.

“The focus on the last few days was about the vetoing of five measures but maybe we failed to see all the other measures that were not vetoed,” he added.

Among the bills that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. recently vetoed are the transport safety board and the tax-free honoraria for poll workers.
