MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will bring overcast skies and rain over the western sections of the country on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its Saturday bulletin, Pagasa said the habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms to Metro Manila; Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon); Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) and to the Western Visayas.

Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is a “big chance” of rain in the said areas, especially in the afternoon and evening.

Fair weather is expected for the rest of the country with partly cloudy to cloudy skies, and isolated rain or thunderstorms, said Pagasa.

Pagasa also did not monitor any no low pressure areas inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

No gale warnings were also declared in any of the country’s seaboards nationwide, Pagasa added.
