PH logs 110 new COVID-19 cases; active down to 2,487

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday recorded 110 new infections of COVID-19, with active cases further brought down to 2,487.

The number of new infections is lower than the number of cases recorded on Monday at 160, as well as the recorded average in the past week during the national elections from May 9 to 15, which was also at 160 cases per day, or a total of 1,118 infections.

With this, the total number of confirmed infections is now 3,688,001 nationwide, with 3,625,001 recoveries and 60,452 deaths.

A total of 19,725 individuals, meanwhile, were tested on Monday, May 16.

While virus transmission remains low, the DOH earlier announced that it had already detected a local transmission of Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1.

The BA.2.12.1 is estimated to be around 20 percent more infectious than the BA.2.

To date, there are now 17 BA.2.12.1 cases in the country — 16 are local cases while one is a returning overseas Filipino living in Western Visayas.
