5,600 cops dismissed since 2016
MANILA, Philippines — More than 5,000 personnel of the Philippine National Police have been dismissed from service since July 2016, as the organization tries to weed out all rotten eggs among their ranks. Citing a report from the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management,
Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., officer in charge of the PNP, said that of the 21,306 personnel who were meted with administrative sanctions, 5,652 or 26.5 percent have been dismissed from the start of the Duterte administration in July 2016 to May 4, 2022.
This was 13.6 percent higher than the 4,974 who were dismissed by March last year. Danao said 716 personnel were involved in illegal drug-related cases and were all dismissed. Of these, 527 or 73.6 percent were found positive for using illegal drugs.
“The PNP does not condone any member of the police organization who violates the law and gets involved in illegal activities,” Danao said.
