Comelec reminds public to submit true info when checking precinct online

BACOLOD CITY––The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded the public to submit accurate information when using its online precinct finder to avoid getting a “not found” response.

Negros Occidental Elections Supervisor Roberto Salazar on Monday advised the public, after numerous complaints from voters who could not find their names.

The “not found” problem, he said, may have also been triggered by heavy traffic at the precinct finder site.

Salazar said the online precinct finder’s URL is voterverifier.comelec.gov.ph.

He said some voters may also have been deactivated for failure to vote in two consecutive elections or because they had registered in the past as overseas absentee voters.

Voters who cannot find their names through the vote finder can go to their local Comelec office for clarification.

Salazar said the names of registered voters are posted in the barangays.

“If the list of registered voters were taken down, they can check with the Comelec office where they are registered,” he said.

The precinct finder will allow voters to get their voting locations online ahead of Election Day. Registered voters can check where they will cast their ballots using the precinct finder by typing in their full name and the city or municipality where they had registered.

On election day, Salazar said voters should not talk to people inside the polling area, take photos of the ballot, tear the ballot, disrupt the vote-counting machine operations, put marks or erasures on the ballot, and bring the ballot, ballot secrecy folder, or marking pens outside the polling area.

“There should also be no distribution of campaign literature or materials designed to support or oppose the election of any candidate,” he said.
