PNP to sustain ramped up drive vs illegal drugs
MANILA, Philippines —The police need to double efforts in the fight against illegal drugs, especially as those involved continuously improve their nefarious methods, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said on Tuesday.
According to Marbil, the government is also aiming for a 100 percent drug-free community.
“‘Pag ka sinasabi mong giyera mayroong katapusan eh, ito walang katapusan po ‘to. Dapat every time talagang responsive, ‘yung mga pulis natin dun sa drugs, kasi sabi ko negosyo po ng mga ilegalista ‘to eh. So every time na gumagaling kami, nag-iiba naman sila ng technique,” said Marbil in an ambush interview, referring to fight against illegal drugs.
(When you talk about war, there’s an end, but this has no end. Our police should always be responsive to drugs because, as I’ve said, this is the business of those doing illegal business. So every time we improve, they also change their techniques.)
He, however, also admitted that there is no “clear cut” solution to eradicating the drug problem in the country.
“Kaya nga sabi ko hindi natatapos ‘ung pagiging innovative…pagiging pulis natin sa paghuli ng drugs. Nag-iimprove rin kami. Kung sila nag-iimprove, then we have to double time ‘yung improvement natin kasi hindi po ‘to matatapos,” he said.
(That’s why I said the innovation never ends…our police work in going after illegal drugs. We are also improving. If they are improving, then we have to double our efforts in improvement because this won’t end.)
Last April 3, Marbil vowed to continue the government’s crackdown against illegal drug syndicates.
He said that he did not want it to be associated with the bloody “war” that marked previous police operations and instead “will always go for the rule of law.”
