Albay’s Kawa-kawa Hill and Natural Park reopens on Holy Week

LIGAO CITY – The Kawa-Kawa Hill and Natural Park pilgrimage site in this city has reopened  this Holy Week, two years after its closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Thousands of pilgrims are expected to visit the hill beginning Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday now that Albay province is under Alert Level 1 status.

“Everyone is free and welcome to visit but minimum health protocol must be observed particularly the wearing of face mask at all times,” former Albay Rep. Fernando Gonzalez, owner Kawa-kawa Hill said on his Facebook account.

Kawa-kawa Hill and Natural Park is one of the most visited places in Albay during Lenten season due to its life-sized statues depicting the passion and death of Jesus Christ.

Holy Mass will also be celebrated at Divine Mercy Monastery which is run by nuns from the Carmelite of the Holy Trinity.

Aside from its famous attractions, the hill is also known for its natural beauty and offers a view of the city and neighboring towns of Oas, Polangui, and Libon in Albay and the lake in nearby Bato town in Camarines Sur province.
