MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday reminded the Department of Education (DepEd) against module materials that would “poison” the public’s mind, saying it should ensure these will not slip past the agency.

This, after Robredo was asked to comment on a supposed DepEd learning module which netizens said puts the vice president in a negative light.

“Kasi hindi ko alam kung totoo siya. Nakita ko na, nakita ko na siya pero hintayin ko ‘yung DepEd to comment. Pero responsibility nila ito eh. ‘Yung DepEd dapat hindi nagpapalabas ng anything– not just because ako ‘yung nasa receiving end ng ginawa, pero kahit ano na magpo-poison sa minds ng mga tao, dapat hindi ‘yun pinapalusot ng DepEd,” Robredo said in an interview with reporters in Pangasinan.

(I don’t know if it’s true. I saw it, I saw it but I will wait for DepEd to comment. But it’s their responsibility. DepEd should not release anything– not just because I am at the receiving end of thi, but anything that will poison the minds of the people, DepEd should not let it slip past them.)

“Kung totoo na naka-lusot ito sa Grade 11 na mga modules, gustong sabihin na napaka inefficient ng DepEd. Ito lang ‘yung pinaka-ebidensya na napaka inefficient nila na pinapayagan nila na ‘yung  mga module na ganito nakakalusot sa kanila,” she added.

(If this is true and it made it to the Grade 11 modules, it shows that DepEd is inefficient. This would be evidence that DepEd is so inefficient that they let these kinds of modules slip past them.)

According to an Inquirer report, the module in question was for Grade 11 students titled “Introduction to Philosophy of the Human Person.”

The said activity instructs students to determine which among the following headlines has no spelling, grammar and content error: a. Robredo Chides Government for Unclear Communication on New Quarantine Rules; b. Robredo Blames the Government as They Don’t Have Clear Rules in Quarantine; c. Robredo Charge the Government as Culprit for Confusion in Quarantine; and d. Robredo blames those in Executive Branch for Communication’s Unclear.

Meanwhile, a succeeding question asked students which among these statements are substantiated generalizations: a. “Drug war a massive failure”–Robredo; b. Robredo lies to the world, shames the nation and herself in UN message; c. The real albatross on Leni Robredo’s neck; and d. Let Leni plan on her own drug war.

DepEd has previously received flak over questionable materials in some of its modules.

In September last year, DepEd assured that enrollees for school year 2021 to 2022 would receive enhanced quality self-learning modules.

Deped Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio previously said the department had undertaken improvements in its quality assurance process and collaborated with the Philippine Normal University in evaluating its learning materials.
