Presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to spend the day in his family’s bailiwick as the country marks the 36th anniversary of the Edsa revolution that ousted his father from Malacañang in 1986.

Marcos is scheduled to campaign today in La Union, one of the provinces in the Ilocos Region where his family has a strong following, his spokesperson Victor Rodriguez confirmed.

“I will just reiterate his message we’ve been giving, that it is OK to disagree but do not let hate take over your humanity,” he said.

Rodriguez also said Marcos was still “looking forward” to the endorsement of President Duterte for the May 9 elections since the President remained popular among Filipinos even with a few months left in office.

“It is important to have the support of the incumbent president and especially we are not blind to the fact that President Duterte’s approval rating I think is 60 percent something like that,” he added.

On Feb. 7, Duterte said he was was not supporting any presidential candidate “at this time,” unless there would be a “compelling reason” to change his decision.

“We will just have to wait for whatever decision the President might be making or may be making now or in the future,” he added. —Leila B. Salaverria and Nestor Corrales
