NBI told to investigate missing ‘sabungeros’
MANILA, Philippines—Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation into the disappearance of over 20 sabungeros (cockfighting aficionados) in various places.
Guevarra required the NBI to submit a progress report within 10 days and periodically provide him with updates.
Then, he said “if evidence warrants, to file appropriate charges against all persons involved and found responsible for any unlawful act in connection therewith.”
On January 13, four cockfighting players went missing from a cockpit in Sta. Cruz, Laguna which was followed by six more at the Sta. Ana cockfighting arena. To date, there are already 26 missing players.
The PNP said they are looking into the identities of three persons of interest to shed light on the matter.
