MANILA, Philippines — More than 200 employees in Pasig City, mostly street sweepers, will get a salary hike, according to Mayor Vico Sotto.

During the local government’s Monday flag-raising ceremony, Sotto announced that 215 more employees from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO) whose current salary is only P5,000 or P8,000 will now have a salary of P12,000 per month.

Sotto said they will also work full time for eight hours a day.

“Marami sa kanila ay street sweeper, makakatulong ito para mapunan ang kulang sa mga eskenita at HOA (homeowners’ association),” Sotto said in a Facebook post.

(Many of them are street sweepers. This will help fill the gap in manpower in streets and HOA.)

This was not the first time that the Pasig City government increased the salary of its workers under the leadership of Sotto. In January, more than 4,000 casual employees of the LGU also received higher salaries from the previous P11,551 to P13,572 a month.

More than 300 medical volunteers in the city also received an increase in salary from P5,000 to P12,000 this year.
