NBI ready to assist probe in shooting of vice gov bet in Misamis Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will extend assistance on the ongoing investigation in shooting of a vice gubernatorial aspirant in Misamis Occidental.
The Philippine National Police (PNP), who are currently conducting a hot pursuit operation, imposed a lockdown on Tangub City, where the incident occurred.
“We’ll let the PNP do the initial investigation but I’ll ask the nearest NBI field agents to stand by and extend assistance if requested,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra told reporters.
A single gunshot wound at 8:45 pm on Wednesday struck Mayor Michael Gutierrez of Lopez Jaena municipality, who is running for vice governor of Misamis Occidental, during a Christmas party held at Tangub City.
Gutierrez suffered a gunshot wound in the head and is now under medical treatment at the Misamis University Medical Center, Ozamiz City, while Rep. Henry Oaminal and former Oroquieta City Mayor Jason Almonte — who were also injured in the incident — are now in stable condition and have been discharged from the hospital.
