UniTeam extends aid to typhoon-battered Southern Leyte, Butuan City, Bohol

MANILA, Philippines — The UniTeam or alliance of political parties supporting presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and vice-presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Sunday donated cash and relief goods to Southern Leyte, Butuan City, and Bohol which were battered by Typhoon Odette.

According to a Facebook post from Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), Marcos turned over to Southern Leyte Gov. Damian Mercado P2 million cash and P2.5 million worth of relief goods for the victims of Typhoon Odette during a simple ceremony at the provincial capitol.

Marcos also turned over to Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada and Vice Mayor Jose “Joboy” Aquino II P2 million cash and P5 million worth of relief goods at the Butuan City Hall.

In Bohol, Marcos also turned over to Bohol Vice Gov. Rene Lopez Relampagos, Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap, and Bohol 1st District Rep. Edgar Chatto P2 million financial assistance, P1 million worth of relief goods, and 800 bags of rice for the victims of the typhoon at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport.

The former senator was accompanied by Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez during the turn-over of assistance to the three areas.

The UniTeam, or the alliance between Marcos and Duterte-Carpio, is composed of four political parties -Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the convenor of the alliance, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, Lakas-CMD and Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that as of Sunday morning, Typhoon Odette has displaced over 180,000 families or 700,000 individuals in around 2,200 villages.

The typhoon left the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday after devastating parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
