DPWH: Typhoon Odette renders 15 national road sections impassable
MANILA, Philippines — Fifteen national road sections are now impassable to all types of vehicles while four road sections now have limited access due to flooding, landslides, fallen trees, and damaged bridges left in the wake of Typhoon Odette, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday.
Citing a report from its Bureau of Maintenance, DPWH Acting Secretary Roger Mercado said total closures were recorded for two road sections in Central Visayas, five in Northern Mindanao, and eight in Caraga.
“DPWH Quick Response Teams are closely-monitoring and working on clearing remaining closed roads in close coordination with concerned local government units. A total of 13 roads have been cleared and reopened on Thursday, December 16, 2021,” the agency said in a statement.
The following are the affected road sections in Central Visayas due to fallen trees, according to DPWH:
– Jct (LIR) Buenavista-Carmen-Danao-Jetafe Rd, K0153+050 – K0153+060, in the town of Carmen
– Tagbilaran East Road, K0156+400 – K0156+410, Poblacion, in Alicia Town
Road closures were also reported in Northern Mindanao, specifically in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Gingoog City, and Misamis Oriental:

– Sta. Felomina -Bonbonon – Digkilaan – Rogongon Road (S00946MN) K1528+0370 – K1528+0370 in Barangay Digkilaan, Iligan City due to soil collapse
– Gingoog – Claveria – Villanueva (S00569MN) Road, K1316+0332 – K1342+0074 and K1323+0300-K1323+0325 section in Brgy. Samay, Gingoog City due to landslide
– Gingoog – Claveria – Villanueva, K1347+0550-K1347+0560, Brgy. Aposkahoy, Claveria, in Misamis Oriental due to soil collapse
Meanwhile, Odette also damaged roads in Caraga, specifically in Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Sur:
– Daang Maharlika (Surigao-Agusan Sect), K1214+0316 to K1214+0350 Brgy. Mabini in Cabadbaran City
– Butuan City-Malaybalay Rd K1261+0900 to K1261+0990 Brgy. San Mateo, Butuan City
– Daang Maharlika (Surigao-Agusan Sect), K1240+0500 to K1240+0700, Brgy. De Oro, Butuan City
– Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II Ave, K1238+0500 to K1240+0000 Brgy Mahay, Butuan City
– Pianing Bridge Butuan City-Pianing-Tandag Rd. K1235+0380 to K1235+0395 Brgy. Pianing, Butuan City
– Butuan City-Pianing-Tandag Rd. K1245+0950 to K1246+0250 Brgy. Anticala, Butuan City
– Dinagat-Loreto Road K0014+0800 to K0014+0900, Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands
– Surigao-Davao Coastal Road, K1269+0800 to K1269+0850 and K1270+0800 to K1270+0810 sections in Brgy. Nurcia, Lanuza, Surigao
The DPWH added that motorists also have limited access to the following roads:
– Corrales Extension St. – Port Road K1439+0050 – K1439+0200 section in Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City is passable to heavy vehicles only due to flooding
– Dinagat-Loreto Road, K0033+0800 to K0033+0900, Diegas, (Basilisa) Rizal, and K0015+0100 to K0015+0200, in Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands are passable to light vehicles only due to fallen trees
– Daang Maharlika (Surigao-Agusan Sect), K1221+0600 to K1221+0986, Bgry. Poblacion, R.T. Romualdez, Agusan del Norte and Daang Maharlika (Agusan-Davao Sect), K1257+0150 to K1257+0300 San Vicente, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur are passable to only heavy vehicles only due to flooding
