‘Odette’ further intensifies: Signal No. 2 up in 14 areas – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon “Odette” (international name: Rai) further intensified on Wednesday afternoon as it moved west northwestward over the Philippine Sea, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

As of 4 p.m, Pagasa said “Odette” was spotted approximately 485 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph.

It is currently moving west northwestward at 25 kph.

Expect heavy rainfall in these areas on Thursday

With this forecast, heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, the northern portion of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, the northern portion of Agusan del Sur, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, and Negros Occidental, said Pagasa.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are expected over Leyte, the southern portions of Eastern Samar and Samar, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, the northern portion of Zamboanga del Norte and the rest of Caraga.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains, on the other hand, are expected in the Bicol Region, the rest of Zamboanga del Norte, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and the rest of Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

The typhoon is expected to hit land over Caraga-Eastern Visayas by Thursday afternoon or evening.
