PH crosses 43,000 mark in COVID-19 deaths after 423 new fatalities — DOH

There are now more than 43,000 deaths of COVID-19 in the country after 423 mortalities were reported on Saturday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

MANILA, Philippines — There are now more than 43,000 deaths of COVID-19 in the country after 423 mortalities were reported on Saturday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The total number of deaths is now at 43,044 which is 1.55 percent of all COVID-19 cases.

The total number of infections is now at 2,783,893 after 4,008 cases were reported on Saturday.

Of the total number of cases, 47,690 or 1.7 percent are still tagged as active cases but most of them only have mild and asymptomatic cases at 79.5 percent.

The current positivity rate of cases is currently at 7.8 percent. The World Health Organization said positivity rate must be 5 percent or below to indicate controlled transmission of the virus.

DOH noted that 54 duplicates were removed from the total case count including 44 recoveries.

A lone case was found to have tested negative and has been removed from the total case count, according to DOH.

“Moreover, 373 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.

Meanwhile, the global infection now stands at 246 million including 4.99 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
