Signal No. 1 in 9 areas due to Tropical Storm Maring
MANILA, Philippines — Nine areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 due to Tropical Storm Maring, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Sunday.
Strong winds are prevailing or are expected within 36 hours in the affected areas.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Maring “continues to assimilate the remnant of Nando,” a weather disturbance that has now weakened into a low pressure area.
“Sa ngayon po, ‘yung nangyayari, ‘yung ilang bahagi nung Tropical Depression Nando, na kung saan low pressure area na lamang po siya, sumasama po siya d’on sa or sumasanib diyan sa may Tropical Storm Maring,” Pagasa weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin explained.

Maring was spotted at 665 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 a.m. It packs maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
The tropical storm is moving north at 10 kph.
Pagasa said Western Visayas, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro may experience rains due to the “gradual enhancement of the southwesterlies.”
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains due to Maring are expected in Eastern Samar and Catanduanes in the next 24 hours.
The Bicol and Caraga regions, and the rest of Visayas may have light to moderate and at times heavy rains.
Pagasa cautioned that “isolated to scattered flash floods and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazard.”

Mindanao
