Cop, NPA rebel dead in Northern Samar clash
TACLOBAN CITY—A policeman and a suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter Thursday in Silvino Lobos town, Northern Samar.
Patrolman Mario Caramol succumbed to gunshot wounds on his body.
Members of the 805th Regional Mobile Force Brigade led by Police Lt. Juan Guillermo Ebdane were in Sitio Geparayan of Barangay Geparayan de Turag in Silvino Lobos town when they encountered at least 10 communist rebels which resulted in a 10-minute firefight.
Meanwhile, NPA rebels reportedly shot dead on Aug. 16 a farmer in San Isidro town in Northern Samar.
Wenefredo Medice was tending his farm in Barangay Balite when the four rebels appeared and shot him several times.
