Cops arrest Dawlah Islamiyah subleader in Maguindanao
SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao — Government forces arrested Thursday afternoon a wanted man who turned out to be a subleader of terrorist group Dawlah Islamiya operating in Sultan Kudarat province.
Brig. Gen. Eden Ugale, police director of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, identified the arrested suspect as Kalid Andalani Kalaing alias Commander Kalid.
Kalaing is facing charges for carnapping with homicide. He is a resident of Barangay Molon in Palimbang town, Sultan Kudarat.
Ugale said the Maguindanao police received a tip from their counterparts in Sultan Kudarat about Kalaing traveling from Cotabato City to Isulan town on board a white pick-up truck.
He was nabbed at a police checkpoint in Barangay Labu-Labu in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao at about 3 p.m.
Article continues after this advertisementAfter his arrest, the suspect was turned over to the Sultan Kudarat provincial police office.
“This should send a clear message to criminals or wanted persons hiding in the region; you can run but you can never hide from the Philippine National Police. We are determined as ever to go after criminals who have been eluding arrests for years,” Ugale said.
