2 dead, 6 hurt as trucks fall into ravines in Mountain Province
BAGUIO CITY—Two persons died while six others were hurt in separate road mishaps Sunday in Mountain Province, police said.
Investigators identified one of the fatalities as driver Renny Loy Pey-agen, 33, whose truck plunged into a 250-meter deep ravine on the municipal road system at Barangay Talubin in the capital town of Bontoc at 2:50 p.m.
Pey-agen had delivered steel bars to Barangay Can-eo, Bontoc, and was on his way back home when he lost control of the vehicle, the investigators said.
Rescuers brought the victim to the Bontoc General Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Around 12:30 noon, an Isuzu Elf truck driven by Nole Sobia, 49, fell into a 70-meter deep ravine at Barangay Poblacion in Natonin town.
One of Sobia’s passengers, identified as Junjun Conjurado, died of multiple organ failure while undergoing treatment in a hospital. Sobia and five of his passengers suffered injuries.
